IT companies in Nepal, and how to choose one

The hard part isn’t finding a vendor. It’s telling the good ones apart.

Every firm’s website says the same things. This page covers what IT companies in Nepal actually deliver, the questions that separate a real engineering team from a reseller, and how to verify any of it independently before you sign.

Illustrative checklist

Definition

An IT company in Nepal is a firm that builds, integrates, or operates software for clients from a base in Nepal.

Typically that means custom software and web or mobile applications, SaaS platforms, data and AI systems, or engineers embedded into a client’s own team. Most serve international clients remotely as well as domestic ones.

The work

What IT companies in Nepal deliver.

“IT company” covers three different businesses. Knowing which one you are talking to changes what you should ask for.

Build to order

Software & product firms

They take a specification or a problem and ship a system: web and mobile applications, custom business software, SaaS platforms, data pipelines, AI features.

The firm, against agreed scope

Plenty of firms do two or three of these. That is not a problem in itself, but it does mean the category on the homepage tells you less than the recent history of the specific team who would be assigned to you.

The checklist

Six questions that actually separate firms.

Portfolios and client logos are easy to assemble. These are harder to fake, which is exactly why they are worth asking. Pick a question, then mark the answer you got.

Due diligence

Check us where we can’t edit the copy.

A company’s own site is marketing, including this one. Independent directories verify reviews with the client who left them, so a firm with real delivery history usually has a profile carrying named references — and a firm with none is worth a second look.

One more check

Ask any firm for its company registration number and confirm it. Legitimate firms produce it immediately.

Hiring an IT company in Nepal

Most fall into one of three groups. Service firms build software to order — web and mobile applications, custom business systems, SaaS platforms, and data infrastructure. Outsourcing and staff-augmentation firms supply engineers who work inside a client's own team and processes. Product companies build and sell their own software. A single company often spans more than one group, so the useful question is not what category it claims but which of those three the specific team assigned to you actually does day to day.

Check it somewhere the company does not control the copy. Independent directories such as Clutch, GoodFirms, and TechBehemoths publish reviews collected directly from clients, so a firm with real delivery history usually has a profile with named references. Then ask for two things: a reference you can speak to without the vendor present, and a code or architecture sample from work comparable to yours. A company confident in its delivery will produce both.

Rates are generally lower, but cost per delivered outcome is the number that matters, and that depends on how well the engagement is run rather than on the hourly rate. A low rate attached to vague scope, slow review cycles, and heavy rework can cost more in total than a higher rate with tight milestones. Ask for a fixed scope on the first milestone — it tells you more about the real cost than any rate card.

Nepal is UTC+5:45, which gives a working-hours overlap with Europe, the UK, the Middle East, India, Southeast Asia, and Australia. US clients typically get a morning or late-evening overlap window. The practical requirement is not full-day overlap but a reliable daily window for decisions, plus written async updates so work does not stall between calls.

Match it to your risk. Large firms offer continuity and bench depth if people leave, which matters for long-running systems. Smaller specialist teams usually give you senior people directly on the work rather than behind an account layer, which matters when the problem is unusual. The failure mode to check for in either case is the same: whether the people in the sales meeting are the people who will build it.

Four things that are routinely left vague. Who owns the intellectual property and source code on completion. Where your data is stored and processed. What happens at the end of the engagement — handover, documentation, and credentials. And the termination terms if delivery slips. Rates and timelines get negotiated carefully; these four decide what you are left holding if the relationship ends badly.

No. Zunkiree Labs is based in Kathmandu and roughly 60% of our clients are international, across the US, UK, India, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. Delivery runs on milestone-based process and time-zone-overlapping communication rather than a location-dependent outsourcing model.
